Repair of the fire protection water tank with the Penetron System
Project Description
The repair and waterproofing intervention on the fire protection water tank in São João da Madeira was highly demanding technically, as the structure remained full of water throughout the works. The need to keep this safety infrastructure operational prevented both draining the reservoir and accessing its interior.
The solution involved carrying out the work from the exterior of the structure, working against negative hydrostatic pressure. To stop active leaks without emptying the tank, Penetron Peneplug was used for the instantaneous plugging of water under pressure. Subsequently, cracks, chase slots, and critical points were treated and filled with Penecrete Mortar repair mortar. Finally, the exterior face of the concrete received an application of Penetron Standard, a crystalline coating whose active agents migrate deeply into the concrete's capillary network—even against the direction of the water flow—sealing the pores and rendering the structure fully watertight and durable.

- Penetron Peneplug: High-performance, ultra-rapid setting mortar used for the immediate plugging and stopping of active water leaks under pressure from the exterior.
- Penecrete Mortar: Structural cementitious repair mortar with crystallization, applied to fill and level cracks, chase slots, and critical points on the exterior face of the tank.
- Penetron Standard: High-penetration crystalline cementitious coating. Its chemical components react with moisture in the concrete to form insoluble crystals within the capillary network, permanently blocking the passage of water.
