Project Description

The rehabilitation and waterproofing project for the Apartadura Water Treatment Plant (WTP), located in the municipality of Marvão, required technical solutions featuring high durability and certified suitability for contact with drinking water using the Penetron product range.

To treat the degraded concrete and ensure total watertightness of the water treatment and storage structures, an integrated concrete repair and crystallization system was deployed. The intervention involved filling and leveling joints, cracks, and critical points with Penecrete Mortar structural mortar, the preventive waterproof sealing of construction joints using Penebar SW 55 swellable waterstop tape, and the continuous coating of concrete surfaces with Penetron Standard. This solution allowed the active compounds to migrate into the concrete's capillary network, permanently sealing pores and micro-cracks, providing protection against erosion, and safeguarding the quality of the treated drinking water.

  • Penetron Standard: Integral crystalline waterproofing cementitious coating applied to concrete surfaces, deeply sealing the structure and suitable for drinking water storage structures.
  • Penecrete Mortar: Crystalline cementitious repair mortar used for reconditioning deteriorated concrete, treating construction joints, and filling cracks and critical points.
  • Penebar SW 55: Swellable waterstop tape designed for waterproof sealing and controlled expansion in construction joints subjected to hydrostatic pressure.
