The construction of the new elevated helipad platform at São João Hospital, in Porto, represented a highly significant infrastructure and public health project. Designed for continuous operation for INEM medical emergencies, the helipad was built on a composite deck platform, requiring the highest guarantees of safety, durability, and structural protection.
Since the structure features a composite deck exposed to weathering, constant mechanical vibrations, and the demands of helicopter traffic, ensuring concrete waterproofing and protecting the reinforcement and metallic components against corrosion was essential. The use of an integral crystallization solution from Penetron made it possible to waterproof the concrete mass within the slab, providing self-healing of micro-cracks and preventing the ingress of water and aggressive agents throughout the structure's service life.
